AKŞEHİR GRAND MOSQUE
Akşehir Grand Mosque is located on the street bearing its name in the city center. The building was built in the 13th century during the reign of Aleaddin Keykubat as a foundation work during the Seljuk period. The mosque, built of rubble stone and brick, has a rectangular plan. The harim part of the building is divided into seven pitches perpendicular to the mihrab wall and has a barrred dome in front of the mihrab. The entrance of the harim section is reserved as women's quarters. Except for the dome in front of the mihrab, the building has a flat ceiling with wooden veneer from the inside and is covered with a hipped roof from the outside. The single-balcony minaret of the mosque is located to the east of the entrance façade. Based on the inscription on the minaret, it is thought that the building was first built in 1213 and renovated by Alaeddin Keykubat. The building, which is quite modest from the outside, has a tiled mihrab made in tile mosaic technique. There are also traces of tiles on the pedestal of the minaret.
