EREĞLİ RÜSTEM PAŞA COMPLEX

It was built in 1552 by Grand Vizier Rüstem Pasha as a foundation work during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent. The caravanserai, which is located in the old city texture, together with the great mosque and the bathhouse, is important because it is a work of  Sinan The Architect. The building consists of five large vaulted units lined up side by side behind a partially enclosed porticoed area in front. The closed part rests on four cruciform piers and divides the caravanserai into five pitches horizontally. Rüstem Pasha Caravanserai is one of the rare examples of a caravanserai built as an independent caravanserai within the city fabric, apart from the range complexes of the Ottoman period.
