THE SIRÇALI MADRASA

Sırçalı Madrasa was built by the Seljuk Emir Bedreddin Muslih in 1243 as a foundation work. The building was constructed of cut stone and brick, in the type of madrasahs with open courtyards, with two floors and two iwans. It is also known as Muslihiyye Madrasa because of its founder. The name Sırçalı Madrasa derives from its rich glazed brick and mosaic tile decorations. Today, the tiles of the building have largely disappeared and the main iwan façade has turquoise and dark blue tiles reflecting the Seljuk characteristic. To the right of the crown gate and the entrance iwan is the tomb of Bedreddin Muslih, the founder of the building. As it has an open courtyard and two floors, it is the only Seljuk madrasah in Konya with these architectural features.
