AKŞEHİR THE GÜDÜK MİNARE MASJİD

The Güdük Minare Masjid, so named because its minaret was destroyed above the balcony, was built as a foundation work by Emînüddin Hacı Hasan, son of Abdullah Muhtesib, in 1227 during the Seljuk period. The single-domed building was constructed with pitch-faced, cut and rubble stones and bricks, some of which were spolia. It is thought that the building has a last congregation place from the existing traces. The eastern and western facades of the masjid are animated with long rectangular surface niches towards the fringe. Above the pointed arched entrance door on the eastern façade of the masjid, there is an ornamentation program consisting of turquoise colored eight-pointed stars and dark blue tiles in a rectangular panel. The brick cylindrical minaret, which gives the building its name, is located in the southeast corner of the building.
