KARAMAN HODJA MAHMUD MOSQUE

Hodja Mahmud Mosque was built by Hodja Mahmud, the son of Haci Bahshayish, as a foundation work in 1451, during the Karamanids period. Hodja Mahmud Mosque, built of rubble stone material, has a rectangular plan. The harim part of the building is composed of three pitches extending parallel to the mihrab wall with eight wooden poles. The structure, which has a flat ceiling with wooden beams from the inside, is covered with a four-sided hipped roof from the outside. The building has a minaret similar to the examples in Konya, but made of metal, not wood, and with a half-closed minaret balcony.   The most interesting aspect of the building, which has undergone various architectural changes, is that there are three mihrabs in the harim section. These three different mihrabs are likely to be related to the changes the structure has undergone. On the mihrab surfaces of the structure, ornamental elements bearing the characteristics of the period are seen.
