KARAMAN HATUNİYE MADRASAH

Hatuniye Madrasah was built by Sultan (Nefise) Hatun in 1381 during the Karamanids period as a foundation work. The structure, which is one of the most monumental buildings built by the Karamanids in the city center of Karaman, was constructed of cut stone material with an open courtyard, single storey and two iwans. The entrance iwan is relatively smaller than the main iwan and the courtyard of the building has portico. The building has a monumental crown gate extended from the main façade and bearing the traces of Seljuk art. It is possible to see rich examples of stone ornamentation on the surface of the crown door, which is the most adorned part of the madrasa. The madrasah, which has a special importance due to the fact that its foundress was a lady, is located in the city center of Karaman.
