AKTEKKE (MADER-İ MEVLANA) MOSQUE

Aktekke Mosque was originally built as a Mawlawi house with its tomb, sama house and dervish cells that have been demolished. Accordingly, the structure, which was first built as a foundation work in 1370 during the Karamanids period, took its present form during the Ottomans period in the 16th century. Aktekke Mosque, one of the typical Ottoman mosques with a square plan and a single dome with a three-celled last congregation place, was built of cut stone material. In the northeast corner of the building, there is a minaret with a single balcony, also built of stone. Aktekke Mosque, located in the city center of Karaman, has a very special importance due to the fact that it contains the graves of many Mawlawis, especially the mother of Hz. Mevlana.
