AKŞEHİR TAŞ MADRASA

Taş Madrasa, which is the madrasa of a complex consisting of a madrasa, masjid, tomb, hankah (darvish lodge), almshouse and fountain, was built by the Seljuk Vizier Sâhib Ata Fahreddin Ali in 1261 as a foundation work during the reign of the Seljuk Sultan Keykâvus II. The building is also known as Halkali Madrasa among the people. Built of rubble stone and brick, Taş Madrasa is in the plan of single-storey madrasas with an open courtyard and iwan. The original version of the building, which has three iwan today, is thought to have four iwan. In the northwest corner of the madrasah, the unit in the west of the courtyard is a tomb, and in the northwest corner there is a square-planned masjid covered with a dome. The masjid has a two-sectioned last congregation place carried by three columns and a minaret in the northwest corner. Today, the building operates as  museum of stone artifacts.
