KILIÇ ARSLAN II (SULTANS) TOMB

Located in the courtyard of Alaeddin Mosque, the octagonal tomb was built by Yusuf bin Abdulgaffar al-Cuhi in 1197, during the reign of  Kılıç Arslan II. The structure was built of cut stone as a foundation work.  The tomb is a two-storey building with an octagonal body on a high pedestal and is covered with a dome on the inside and a pyramidal cone on the outside. The tomb built by Kılıç Arslan II is also the eternal resting place of the other seven Seljuk sultans. The structure, which contains the sarcophagi of Seljuk Sultans Kılıç Arslan II, Mesud I, Rükneddin Süleyman II, Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev, Alaeddin Keykubad I, Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev II, Kılıçarslan IV, and Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev III, is of great importance in this respect.  Five of the sarcophagi of the eight Seljuk sultans in the mausoleum have survived to the present day with tile decorations. The dominant color of the inscribed tiles is dark blue.
