KARATAY MADRASAH
Karatay Madrasah, which is located just outside the walls of Konya Inner Castle, just across of Alaeddin Hill, was built by Emir Celaleddin Karatay in 1251 during the reign of Sultan Izzeddin Keykavus II in order to teach the knowledge of hadith and tafsir. As a foundation work, the building was constructed of cut stone, rubble stone and brick materials in places, and was built in a single-storey and closed courtyard madrasah type. The madrasah, which also contains the mausoleum of its patron Emir Celaleddin Karatay, is the only structure where all types and examples of Seljuk tile art can be seen, both in terms of plate, underglaze and mosaic tiles connected to the architecture, as well as the artifacts brought from Konya Kubadabad Palace.
