THE ALÂEDDİN MOSQUE
The Alâeddin Mosque was built near the Seljuk palace within the Seljuk Inner Castle, which today constitutes the center of Konya and is called Alâeddin Hill, as the great mosque of the city of Konya. Although there are many inscriptions in the building, which had a long construction period, the construction of the mosque was completed under the supervision of Atabeg Ayaz between 1115-1220 during the reign of Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad. The Alaeddin mosque, which has three different plan types in the harim section, has a pulpit made of ebony wood under the barred dome in kundekari technique. In the courtyard of the mosque are the tombs of Mesud I, Kılıç Arslan, Rükneddin Süleyman II, Gıyâseddin Keyhüsrev I, Alaaddin Keykubad I, Gıyâseddin Keyhüsrev II, Kılıç Arslan IV and Gıyâseddin Keyhüsrev III. Alaeddin Mosque is important because it was built as the great mosque of the Seljuk Capital and was the eternal retreat of many Seljuk sultans.
